Istanbul Commerce Unıversıty Department of Sociology Professor Korkut Tuna, Afyon Kocatepe University Department of General Sociology and Methodology Professor Mehmet Karakaş, IU Department of Sociology Professor İsmail Coşkun and IU Department of Applied Sociology Professor Enes Kabakçı took part in the ceremony as speakers.
IU Sociology Professor İsmail Coşkun made the opening speech at Ziya Gökalp memorial ceremony. Prof. Dr. Coşkun said: “Establishing science of sociology under difficult circumstances, Gökalp still continues to influence next generations with his ideas although 90 years passed since his death.”
Other speaker was Istanbul Commerce Unıversıty Department of Sociology Professor Korkut Tuna. In his speech, Prof. Dr. Tuna said: “Thanks to Ziya Gökalp who took the terms he use from Turkish and Arabic, sociology earned a national identity. Notions he put forward became very important for enlightening of the science of sociology.”
Prof. Dr. Enes Kabakçı gave an information about Ziya Gökalp’s ideological personality and emphasized the purpose of Gökalp’s national history idea is to instil patriotism in youth.
Taking the podium Prof. Dr. Mehmet Karakaş said that sociology of Ziya Gökalp is mainstream in Turkey’s sociology and it has a huge impact on Republic regime.
