Technology and Science Panel was organized as a part of 13th İstanbul University Genetics Club (ÜUGEN) International Molecular Biology and Genetics Winter School at Ord. Prof. Dr. Cemil Bilsel on March 4. Prof. Nazlı Arda, Assoc. Prof. Fatma Neşe Kök, Prof. Franz-Georg Hanisch, Asst. Prof. Bilal Kerman and Rick Kamps participated the panel as speaker.
The contributions of technological developments to basic sciences are generally mentioned in the panel. Head of Molecular Biology and Genetics Department Prof. Arda said that she had wanted to talk about multidiciplinary area of science and said “I believe that we should collaborate with experts from different diciplines.It seems impossible our works to get somewhere succesfull without having contributions from medicine and engineering.”
Assoc. Prof. Fatma Neşe Kök from İstanbul Technical University mentioned that basic science experts can develop themselves and carry their works in a higher level. Assoc.Prof. Kök said also “A society should have fund of knowledge and equipment, the state should have technology policy as well.”
Asst. Prof. Bilal Ersen Kerman who participated the panel from İstanbul Medipol University talked about the difference between technology and science and he said “While science is a concept which tells us ‘Why not?’; technology is a concept which tells us ‘How to?’”
