“For Yaşar Kemal with His Words” ceremony started at 15.30 with Writer Zeynep Oral’s opening speech and a moment of silence for Yaşar Kemal. Zeynep Oral said: “In this ceremony there will not be long eulogies, only words of Yaşar Kemal” and read quotes from Yaşar Kemal’s works. In the ceremony, Yaşar Kemal’s short documentary which was produced by Nebil Özgentürk, also featured.
After reading quotes from Yılanı Öldürseler (To Crush the Serpent). Yer Demir Gök Bakır (Iron Earth, Copper Sky),and İnce Memed (Memed, My Hawk); Cihan Ünal, Selçuk Yöntem, Meltem Cumbul and Tilbe Saran read Yaşar Kemal’s Age of 17 poem. Praised by Yaşar Kemal, İdil Biret played Chopin Ballade No 1 for Kemal.
The ceremony ended with the words of “But if I know one thing, that is, all my life, I had one dream; to write a little bit more, a little bit more, a little bit better” from Yaşar Kemal’s own voice and his lovers’ chanting “Yaşar Kemal was our honour”
