NAZIM HIKMET’S PLAY AGAIN IN RUSSIA

Adapted from Nazım Hikmet’s play Ferhat and Şirin, musical theatre play is staged again in Bolshoi Theatre.

According to Turkrus.com news, choreographed by Yuriy Grigoroviç, the play met with the audience for the first time on 5th November. The cheapest ticket of the play was put up for 385 lira. Named as “Legenda O Lyubvi” in Russia, “Muhabbet Efsanesi” in Azeri, the play depicts the adventure of Ferhat who is obliged to birng water through flaring the mountains to be gathered with Şirin. Written by Nazım Hikmet when he stayed in Bursa Prison for 10 years, the theatre play was staged at various theatres in Russia before.

Stated in the news, Yuriy Grigoroviç said: “Nazım Hikmet’s play gained popularity in 1960’s and it was staged at almost all of the SSCB theatres. We wanted to use this philosophical stıory as libretto for our ballet. As the composer of the artwork Kara Karayev suggested Arif Melikov. Melikov. Melikov composed for the couple of scenes before. As for the stage arrangement, It was taken on by Simon Virsaladze.”
