Started to work in 2010 to establish and popularize ethical awareness, committee combats the widespread cases in Turkey of plagiarism, droning and unjustified benefit of the publication. İÜ Ethics Committee is composed of each 9 academic member from medical sciences, physical sciences and social sciences chosen by İÜ Senate. Committee members work for 3 years unless a problem occurs and sub-committees are formed in some cases.
If a complaint about the breach of ethical principles comes, it is evaluated by committee. Publication is evaluated by related faculty members in the committee according to its fidelity to ethical principles. For instance, publication of a member from Faculty of Communication is evaluated by faculty members selected by quota of social sciences in the committee. Including commentary and suggestions from a rapporteur among members, report comes to Ethic Committee in a month. Committee makes all the evaluation according to this report. At the end of the evaluation, fidelity of the publication is reported and the end result is submitted to İÜ Rectorship. Initiative to impose a sanction or not is completely belongs to rectorship.
