The event, held at İstanbul University (İU) Faculty of Letters Pocket Cinema, started with the screening of “Die Welle”.
After the screening writer Ali Şimşek made an analysis of the movie.
Saying that cinema supply a deep or superficial space to talk about anything and cinema has freedom of subject, Şimşek said that cinema is a kind of art that is passive but wide and gives emotional interaction.
Şimşek said: “When movie is based on school, it makes us question many subject. Die Welle handles with two subject, socialism and anarchism, on a knife-edge. Movie makes audience question monotype creates whether despot or freedom.”
Saying that in the movie, “we” emotion between students who secure uniformity by wearing white shirt, turns into dangerous fascism Şimşek said that the class experience the motivation of gathering.
Şimşek said: “Equality, freedom, brotherhood should be balanced. Ideologies are contradictory, they do not work normatively when it comes to people. At the end of the movie this is openly shown with dangerous results of fascism.”
At the end of his speech Şimşek answered the questions.
